SAFEGUARDING REPORT FOR 2019
At the beginning of 2019 Kate Mier and Parish Safeguarding Officer, Roz Eden, met and established an Action Plan so that our churches would continue to comply with the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy. This included implementing the new online Dashboard system which flags up guidance and action needed.
Between April and June new posters for the National Promoting a Safer Church and Safeguarding Policy were displayed in all our churches together with the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy document so that all could read it.
Also by June all outstanding DBS checks were identified and actioned whilst continuing to review and action the Central Diocese directive. The Arden Marches Churches website was updated with Safeguarding contacts and procedures for any concerns. The PCC committed to strive to continue to raise the profile of safeguarding in our churches and voted to formally adopt the March 2018 version of the Safeguarding Policy of Coventry Diocese.
Roz Eden stepped down as Parish Safeguarding Officer and we would like to record our thanks to Roz for the considerable time and effort she put in as P.S.O. In October Phil Pattison became interim Parish Safeguarding Officer. It was hoped that a new P.S.O would be appointed soon using the Safer Recruitment process.
PCC approved Arden Marches Churches’ Procedure to Respond to a Safeguarding Concern or Allegation. This was then distributed to a wide range of people including Church Officers, PCC and DCC members, leaders of activities for children and Pastoral Visitors. All were made aware that any concerns during a church activity should be raised directly with the Parish Safeguarding Officer or Rector.
By the end of 2019 we had completed Level 1 (Safer Foundations) of the Safeguarding Action Plan. Going forward into next year we will be working on Level 2 (Safer Activities).
Janet Green (PCC Secretary)
